What happened to ToonHub???
The bad news - In mid 2006, my web hosting company (M6.net) had a server crash and lost all data for several sites I own, including Toonhub. M6 had no data backup procedures in place, and my personal computer crashed a few months prior, so any backup data I had would require recovery from my crashed drive. Daunted by the prospect of reproducing all that data, I let the site lie fallow from that time until May 1, 2007.
The good news - In earlt 2007, I discovered that Toonhub's pages had been archived on Archive.org. Most of the images were not available, but the key data - thousands of links, Oscar, Emmy and Annie award listings, Andrew Leal's Toonjunkies data - was all still available. You can view a copy the old site at this link. I was also able to recover hundreds of scanned magazine cover images from my crashed drive.
What's next? - The old site's design was labor intensive, and largely relied upon me having spare time and energy to maintain it, which I often don't. ToonHub is currently being rebuilt as a collaborative site using a Mediawiki engine. This will allow the animation enthusiasts who use the site to make updates, correct errors and expand the range of its content. I believe that allowing others to contribute to Toonhub's usefulness will ultimately drive it toward what my vision of it has been all along. Check out the ToonHub wiki's progress here.
